Is ArkiaSuite installed on this computer? It is still open: click its red “A” icon in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, or simply close this tab.

On a phone? The app is still open: go back to it from your list of open apps, or tap its “A” icon.

How do I install ArkiaSuite on Linux?

ArkiaSuite for Linux comes as two files: the .deb for Ubuntu, Debian and Mint, and the AppImage for all other distributions.

Step by step

  1. Download your file. On Ubuntu, Debian or Mint: the .deb. On another distribution (Fedora…): the AppImage. It lands in your “Downloads” folder.

  2. The .deb: double-click it. Your software center opens and installs it; the computer asks for its administrator password. In a terminal, it is the same thing: sudo apt install ./ArkiaSuite-Linux.deb

  3. The AppImage: put it in your home folder. Right-click it, open its properties and check the box that allows it to run as a program (in a terminal: chmod +x ArkiaSuite-Linux.AppImage). Then double-click it.

  4. ArkiaSuite opens on the sign-in screen: sign in with your account.

  5. The first time, if your desktop doesn’t have a keyring yet, it asks you to create one and choose its password. That’s normal: that’s where ArkiaSuite keeps your passwords (GNOME Keyring, KWallet).

Good to know

  • Systems: 64-bit, Ubuntu 22.04 and later, Debian 12, Mint 21, Fedora 36 and later.
  • Updates happen on their own. The AppImage replaces itself; with the .deb, the computer asks for its administrator password, and if you say no, nothing changes.
  • On Ubuntu, choose the .deb: there, the AppImage needs a component (libfuse2) that isn’t always installed.
  • When the desktop has notification icons (Ubuntu, KDE, XFCE), closing the window doesn’t quit ArkiaSuite, just like on Windows. On GNOME without these icons, the cross minimizes the window (syncing and mail keep going); to quit, click your name at the bottom of the left-hand column, then Quitter ArkiaSuite (Quit ArkiaSuite).
  • Automatic startup is set up just like on Windows: see open ArkiaSuite at startup.
  • Everything else works just like on Windows.
